A former New York Police Department sergeant who groomed women on Match.com and persuaded them to sexually abuse babies has been jailed for 28 years.

Alberto Randazzo, 40, pleaded guilty last July to conspiring with five women – sometimes the victim’s own mothers – to sexually exploit children and receiving child pornography.

The disgraced ex-cop was sentenced on Wednesday by Brooklyn Federal Judge Pamela Chen, who condemned his sickening crimes ‘heinous and depraved’.

Chen added that Randazzo should spend a lot of time in solitary as he was at high risk of harm from other inmates – being a former police officer and pedophile.

Assistant US Attorney Tyler Smith called Randazzo one of the worst child sex offenders to come through the Brooklyn federal system and said he ‘literally created child abusers’.

Randazzo befriended the women on sites like Match.com and Ashley Madison, then groomed them to abuse children.

He watched the abuse on Skype and went to hotel rooms at least twice in the hopes of watching the abuse up close, the New York Daily News reported.

The twisted abuse began in 2010 and carried on until early 2013, when Randazzo was a supervisor in the Midtown North Precinct.

His then-girlfriend said she was already concerned he might be a pedophile because he spent more time talking to a seven-year-old girl at a holiday party than adults.

She previously told the court that she hacked into his iPhone when he was sleeping, correctly guessing that his police badge number was his password.

She also came across sickening texts telling another woman he wanted to have sex with her on a child’s bed.

Randazzo added that he wanted to have a baby so he and the mother could abuse the young victim together.

Jenney Zerello told Brooklyn Federal Court that she met Randazzo on Match.com in October 2012

Appalled by what she found on his phone, she then looked at Randazzo’s computer and found homemade child pornography.

His horrified girlfriend told Internal Affairs Bureau and made Randazzo think she accepted his desires until he was caught.

Randazzo was first arrested in 2013 on charges of having 23 sexual images of children as young as one.

Prosecutors presented evidence of at least five women he’d met online who sexually abused children to satisfy his sexual desires.

The victims ranged in age from a few months to eight years old.

Randazzo apologized to his family, the judge, prosecutors and everyone harmed by what happened – but failed to specifically mention his child victims.

‘I will not and cannot justify anything that happened here,’ he said.

He added that he had felt ‘this progression’ that he couldn’t stop. It was ‘a darkness I couldn’t wish on anyone.’

The ex-cop claimed he was grateful with the 18-year sentence as his only other outcome would have been suicide.

His mother sobbed during the trial and told her son she loved him as he was taken out of the courtroom.

Two women have pleaded guilty to charges in the case.

Keira Norton, 43, from Colorado had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of distributing child pornography for simulating a sex act on her one-year-old child.

And as sentence was passed at Brooklyn Federal Court, she said she wished God would strike her ‘from the face of the Earth.’

Leigh Marcini, 39, of Pennsylvania, has also pleaded guilty to texting images of herself performing a sex act on a two-year-old boy to Randazzo

Norton, a former police officer on an Indian reservation, previously told the court that she went along with Sergeant Alberto Randazzo’s wishes because she was a victim of domestic violence and had wanted him to act as a witness for her in the case. She was given a five-year sentence.

Jenney Zerello told Brooklyn Federal Court last month that she met Randazzo on Match.com in October 2012.

Three months later, her mother visited the psychic, who told her that her daughter was dating ‘a very bad person’, the Daily News reported.

Zerello told the court that the psychic warned her that she was in a dangerous situation and needed to separate herself from him.

Leigh Marcini, 39, of Pennsylvania, has also pleaded guilty to texting images of herself performing a sex act on a two-year-old boy to Randazzo.

The Daily News reported last July that police had arrested a woman in Massachusetts who had allegedly abused an eight-year-old boy on camera for Randazzo.

The woman – who has not been identified to protect the identity of the child victim – allegedly drugged the boy during the encounter in 2011.

She was later revealed to have been the victim’s grandmother, who reportedly met Randazzo on Ashley Madison, an extra-martial dating website.

On one occasion, the woman sent the NYPD sergeant a picture of her breasts.

‘Omg, now I know why [the victim] is in love with them,’ he is said to have replied.

A third woman is awaiting trial.
